Wellness Q&A

If you read this post you'll know I've been making big health changes recently. It's been a tough but rewarding challenge and I've already gained some knowledge along the way! I thought it would be fun to share what I've learned with y'all so keep reading for my tips and tricks!

Q: What am I doing to get in shape?
A: Walking! I've only been at this a few weeks, but I have been walking 3 miles at least 4-5 days a week and really loving it. Every day gets a little bit easier and I can feel my body getting stronger. I'm a very competitive person so I use that to push myself to do better each workout. I started out walking 3.2 MPH and now I'm up to 3.6 MPH!  Eventually I'd like to incorporate workout videos to help tone my muscles but as of right now I'm just focused on walking.

Q: What am I eating?
A: A combination of protein, vegetables and fruits! I've cut sugar and processed foods from my diet as well as reduced the amount of carbs I'm eating. Bye-bye bread and pasta!

Q: What am I doing to curb sugar cravings?
A: Peanut butter! If I'm feeling like I just have to have a double fudge brownie or hot out of the oven chocolate chip cookie, I'll scoop out a tablespoon (or 2) of peanut butter and eat it right off the spoon.

Q: I cut out unhealthy carbs and sugar but I can't get full. What am I doing wrong?
A: This was me the first couple of days! No matter how much I ate, I just wasn't getting that full feeling. There are a couple of things you can do. The first is to eat more protein. You've said goodbye to pasta and bread, the foods that fill you up quickly and make you feel full, so your body it going through a detox. What you reach for doesn't even have to be meat. One of my favorite high in protein snacks is plain greek yogurt with strawberries. The second thing I recommend is to drink plenty of water! Staying hydrated not only keeps the sugar cravings away but keeps you full too.

Q: Favorite Apps?
A: I've been using the Lose It! app to track my meals and water intake every day. The best part? The app is free! I'll insert a screenshot so y'all can see just how easy it is to track. I can even scan the barcodes of the foods I'm eating instead of typing them in.

To track my workout, I'm using Strava. I don't have an Apple Watch or Fitbit but I'm still able to track my distance, speed and time with the app.
